Wall of Tears

WALL OF TEARS BANNER WEBSITE

On January 29th, Radio Free Brooklyn and artist/Board Member Phil Buehler teamed up on the fourth iteration of "The Wall" project, "Wall of Tears."

"Wall of Tears" is a sobering, heartbreaking visualization of 18,457 Palestinian children killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023.

The original installation on Grattan St. in Bushwick, Brooklyn, measured 50 feet long and 10 feet tall, displaying the children's names in both Arabic and Latin script, color-coded by gender and ordered by the date of death. The database comes from the Palestinian/Gaza Ministry of Health and is cited as the primary source by global human rights organizations, as well as by The Washington Post and The Guardian, among others. Stories and photographs of 100 of the children were assembled from @WashingtonPost, @Guardian and the @Gaza_Shaheed project, which shares memorials posted on X/Twitter by families.

Since its January launch in Brooklyn, Wall of Tears has traveled worldwide, with installations in multiple cities in Australia, London, Mexico City, Dearborn, and others.

“Any way that we can name the names instead of just mentioning the numbers matters. We wanted to be able to honor those...Palestinian children deserve to grow old. They deserve to live.”
