Psychotherapy LIVE! is live, unscripted, psychotherapy with Dr. Lisa, the self-proclaimed psychotherapist, who invites audience volunteers to lie down for 10-minute “therapy sessions” in front of a live crowd. Part improv comedy, part performance art, part actual psychological deep-dive, and it’s hilarious.
What makes the show distinctive is Levy’s approach: despite being unlicensed, her sessions often result in genuine moments of insight and self-discovery for participants, combining humor with surprisingly thoughtful psychological exploration.
The fake doctor has played everywhere from Joe’s Pub to the Brooklyn Academy of Music to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She’s “analyzed” countless volunteers, including some celebrity patients who probably should’ve known better. In addition, for the last 10 years, she’s hosted her own radio show, “Dr. Lisa Gives a Shit” on Radio Free Brooklyn.
